Red Wharf puts our latest Jog into orbit

A sea of red-shirted joggers pounded the pavements of London's Canary Wharf yesterday for the 13th annual British Heart Foundation Canary Wharf Jog.

Crowds gathered as superb dance troupe Ascension Eagles started the entertainment, and celebrity couple Christine and Neil Hamilton joined in a warm-up session led by Reebok staff.

Then, as the Hamilton's cut the start tape and the klaxon sounded, more than 1000 joggers set off around the Wharf to complete up to five laps of the 1km circuit, raising thousands of pounds for to help us beat heart together.

The Jog is facilitated by Canary Wharf Group plc, and is now a major community event for people who live, work and study around east London.

One of last year's top fundraisers, Jacqui Ellis, an executive assistant to Howard Boville and Ben Burgess, was back to raise more money for us in support of her brother-in-law, who had a heart attack at the age of 55.

Jacqui said: “What I think has really worked this year is the fact that there are so many people from the British Heart Foundation, supporting and encouraging everyone as they jog along.

"It really has made a big difference to me. It's very encouraging and we have had some laughs along the way.”

BHF Events quick out of the blocks!

Our 2009 events season is off to a storming start, and participant numbers for many events are already significantly higher than this time last year.

This year, our aim is to raise more than £9m events from our events. Two World Experiences events have also taken place this year, with fundraisers trekking to Everest Base Camp and biking from London to Amsterdam.

This April, we had a fantastic 3200 runners taking part in the Bournemouth Bay Run - well over double the number who took part in the same event last year.

Similarly, our Hyde Park Jog brought out a staggering 1969 runners, who chose to jog 5k or 10k around the beautiful royal park - more than doubling last year's numbers.

And of course April 26 saw 650 Heart Runners take to the London streets to run the gruelling 26 miles marathon route. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to help cheer on our heroic runners.

If you haven't signed up yet for a BHF Event this summer, don't worry!

We've got a fantastic range of runs, jogs, bike rides, walks, hikes and swims coming up over the next couple of months.

You can run, and you can Hyde

A huge well done and thank you to all of the BHF Heart Runners who took part in our 10km Hyde Park Jog in London last night.

Hundreds took part on a gorgeous Spring evening, including our very own Go! Team (pictured above) - all members of our Heart Health and Policy departments - who donned stylish '80s gear including legwarmers to run the course.

All in all, the perfect scene-setter for the upcoming Flora London Marathon on 26 April, in which 600 of our Heart Runners will cover 26 miles to raise vital funds for us.

Heart Runners at the 2008 Great North Run

Take a look at our fantastic photos of Heart Runners who took part in last weekend's BUPA Great North Run, which we've posted on our Flickr online gallery.

Around 1,000 Heart Runners turned out for us and are hoping to raise more than £350,000 for our fight against heart disease, the UK's biggest killer.

Our thanks and congratulations once again to everyone who took part.

Get festive fit for the BHF

With the weather turning chilly, why not set yourself a goal to ward off the winter blues?

BHF Santa jogs take place across the country in December and are a great way to get fit and have fun... and support your favourite heart charity at the same time.

You'll get a free Santa suit which you can customise any way you like. You could form a festive Santa Jog team with friends, family or colleagues. Children are also encouraged to take part in the fancy dress, with small prizes offered for the best costumes.

It's never to early to get into the festive spirit. Plus you'll know you really deserve those mince pies!

Put Your Heart First This Autumn

Summer maybe coming to an end but that doesn't mean it's time to curl up on the sofa.

This autumn our events team have put together a fantastic programme of walks, bike rides, runs and jogs across the country.

Our Hearts First events include family walks in Windsor Park, rambles across the North Downs and family walks along the Liverpool Canal.

Or why not enjoy one of our exhilarating bike rides? Or if you're really up for a challenge, take part in the Humber Bridge jog.

There's lots to choose from - see our main website events calander for more.
