Running for the future

What do you do if your three-year-old daughter suffers from a congenital heart disorder and you want to help fund research into the heart operation which could, in future, make her better?

Well if your name is Pam Quinn (pictured right) you get your running shoes on and start training for a 5km fun run which aims to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.

Pam's daughter Lucy has Aortic Stenosis, a narrowing of the blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the body, and has been told that one day she will need to undergo an operation.

Pam hopes the money she raises will be able to help research into that condition and the operation itself, so that by the little Lucy needs surgery the process will be as good as possible.

You can read more about Pam's story here - and in the meantime we'd like to say "Thanks Pam!" and good luck with the running.

The very best of my wishes for Pam in her fundraising efforts.
I'm sure that after she does the 5 km run, Pam will be looking for more such events to keep the funds coming in.
Have a look at www.seansshack.com and click on the 'Charities' button to see a couple of good examples , one which has turned into an annual event.
The other is about my efforts to get over from New Zealand to London to do an around-Britain walk with Peter from Hereford. We both have had quad. heart bypasses, and we want to raise funds for the BHF and the Rett Syndrome Assoc.(U.K.).
Depending on getting some sponsorship from a guy in Scotland I hope to leave Auckland for London a few days after walking in the Rotorua Marathon on 3 May this year.
Best wishes, Pam.
