Players pitch in to help fight heart disease

Eager as we always are to write about anything football-related, today there is actually a very good reason indeed to pen our blog entry on the beautiful game.

The reason is that we'd like to thank the staff and players at York City FC (ground pictured above) for supporting our annual Hearts First York City Jog, which this year will take place on 15 April.

The club are supporting us because one of their star players, striker David Longhurst (pictured right), died following a heart attack while on the football pitch in 1990, aged just 25.

David was the first player to die in a Football League match in almost 70 years. The tragedy led to the introduction of heart scans for players by the Football Association.

If you'd like to join the players of York City and support our vital, lifesaving work you can find out more about the Jog and register online here

You can also read more about the club and David's story on the Northern Echo website
